Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

Te Rito Ora is a Health NZ community-based service dedicated to supporting whaanau in the Counties Manukau area. We promote and protect breastfeeding while providing practical advice and guidance on all aspects of infant feeding. Our aim is to enable and empower women to breastfeed, improve infant nutrition, and promote healthy feeding practices for babies and toddlers, giving tamariki the best possible start in life. Our service also offers support around infant and adult nutrition, helping families make informed and healthy choices.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support, information, and guidance to mothers and whaanau on breastfeeding and infant nutrition including starting first foods.
  • Deliver support through a range of channels, including in-home visits, virtual consultations, phone, and text, to help mothers initiate and continue breastfeeding.
  • Promote Te Rito Ora services to other organisations, community groups, and the wider public.
  • Work collaboratively with Lactation Consultants to ensure consistent, evidence-based support for whaanau.
  • Support the delivery of practical workshops focused on preparing healthy, affordable meals for families.
  • Use health promotion skills to create and support community opportunities that enhance Hauora for whaanau.
  • Work with the Te Rito Ora team to deliver workshops for healthcare workers and community organisations, promoting consistent, evidence-based practice to reduce conflicting advice.

We offer full training and ongoing support. If you have experience of delivering a high standard of care in a community-based health setting and enjoy a flexible role where every day is different, this could be the job for you.

Ideally, you will have a minimum Certificate in Health Support Work or Health Promotion (or equivalent) and at least one year’s experience in a health service environment. However, we value the right person above all else, candidates with NCEA/School Certificate and relevant life or work experience will also be considered.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and empowering and supporting women to start and continue breastfeeding, we’d love to hear from you, apply now!
