About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and motivated Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our Acute Assessment Unit on a permanent, part-time basis. This is a rostered and rotating position covering 7 shifts per fortnight, equivalent to 0.66 FTE / 52.5 hours. You’ll work closely with our multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, acute setting.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with patient care under the direction of nursing staff, supporting mobility and hygiene needs, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and contributing to the overall wellbeing of patients. About the Team/Service/ Location

The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is a dynamic and busy environment where patients are assessed and treated for a wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions. Our team prides itself on providing prompt, high-quality care and working collaboratively to ensure optimal outcomes for our patients.

Located at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, the AAU is a crucial part of our hospital’s acute services and offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute meaningfully to patient care in a supportive, professional team.

About you

You will be a caring and reliable individual with a strong interest in healthcare and a genuine desire to support patients during their acute care journey. Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2–4) or an equivalent qualification (or be working towards it)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A compassionate, patient-focused approach
  • A proactive attitude, good time management, and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work rostered and rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays

Full orientation and support will be provided to ensure you are well-equipped to succeed in this essential role.
