The Health NZ Waitematā Health Scholarship Programme supports Māori and Pacific people living in the Waitematā region to complete a health science degree with an accredited New Zealand tertiary education provider.

As well as providing support with your course fees of up to $5,000 each year of your study, we will also provide that all-important connection to our district so you can access clinical placement opportunities during your study.

Eligibility Criteria

The main eligibility criteria for scholarship applications are:

  • Enrolment in an undergraduate health science degree in New Zealand
  • New Zealand citizenship and/or permanent residency
  • Māori or Pacific ethnicity
  • Evidence of ties to the community in the Waitematā region (for example, active involvement in community groups)
  • A demonstrated understanding of our health inequalities and why we need to grow our Māori and Pacific health workforces
  • A commitment to working for Health NZ Waitematā District upon graduation for a minimum of two years

To be considered for a scholarship we must receive your completed online application with CV and Cover Letter before the closing date.

Short-listed applicants will be notified and invited to attend an interview.

If successful, you will be expected to maintain a pass mark in your studies, update us annually on your progress, and upon graduation you will be required to enter into a two-year employment agreement with Health NZ Waitematā.
