About the Role

As a Health Care Assistant in the Respiratory Outpatient Department, you’ll provide essential clinical, technical, and administrative support to the nursing and multidisciplinary team. Your work will help ensure the smooth running of respiratory clinics and support a safe, high‑quality experience for patients and their whānau.

Daily tasks may include preparing clinic spaces, assisting with delegated patient care activities, organising tests and documentation, maintaining equipment, and helping ensure patients feel welcomed, respected, and supported throughout their visit. This role plays an important part in keeping services efficient and patient‑centred.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Based in Villa 2 Outpatients at Hawke’s Bay Hospital, the Respiratory Outpatient Department is part of the wider Hospital Group. You’ll work alongside a supportive team of nurses, medical staff, allied health professionals and administrative colleagues who are committed to delivering safe, effective, and culturally responsive care.

About you

You’ll bring compassion, adaptability, and a genuine desire to support high‑quality patient care. You will have:

  • A New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance,
  • OR be actively working towards it,
  • OR be willing to commence the qualification within two months of starting.
  • Experience working in a clinical or patient‑support environment.
  • Confidence following direction and completing delegated clinical and technical tasks.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of people from different cultures, backgrounds, beliefs and experiences.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Good computer and telephone skills, with attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Physical capability to meet the demands of the role (e.g. kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, light physical tasks).
