About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our Renal Department team at Gisborne Hospital. Working under the direction and delegation of Registered Nurses and other Registered Health Professionals, you will provide high quality support to patients while contributing to the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care.

This role includes assisting with patient care activities, supporting the clinical team with administrative and non-clinical tasks, maintaining a safe and well-organised environment, and ensuring patients and whānau receive a positive healthcare experience. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our community.

The Renal Department provides specialist care and support for people living with kidney-related conditions across the Tairāwhiti region. Our team is committed to delivering high quality, culturally responsive care while working closely with patients, whānau, and the wider healthcare team.

About you

• NZQA Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent relevant qualification).
• The ability to work under the direction and delegation of a Registered Nurse or other Registered Health Professional.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach.
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving Māori health outcomes.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy healthcare environment.
• A commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and quality standards.
• Previous healthcare experience, particularly in an acute setting, would be advantageous but is not essential.
