About the Role

The General Manager is responsible for the delivery of high-quality clinical practice and patient care within Whakatāne Hospital. The role expects financial responsibility, delivery of performance targets and ensuring the day-to-day oversight of the safe care and management of patients, staff, and property across Whakatāne Hospital.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Based in beautiful Whakatāne, you will be supported by a dedicated team of professional with a common purpose – to provide the best healthcare service to the Whakatāne and Eastern Bay of Plenty communities.

Whakatāne is a vibrant destination brimming with an exciting array of attractions and activities to suit all ages and interests – it is known for its stunning beaches, gateway to the Eastern coast of Bay of Plenty and home to a number of rare and endangered plants, birds, and reptiles.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following skills and attributes.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification preferably in health
  • Extensive health service management experience (5+ years)
  • Project management skills
  • Strong operational management ideally in a medicine/health of older adult, women’s health, or paediatric setting
  • Financial and resource management experience
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
  • You will have the enthusiasm, drive, and courage to identify and lead change with your leadership and coaching skillset.
  • Your communication skills will be invaluable as you work with various stakeholders, both internal and external.
