Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Counties Manukau District is one of the largest public hospitals in New Zealand with over 9,500 individuals being employed across the region providing healthcare services to more than half a million people in South Auckland. Kidz First is a busy division that delivers care across acute, outpatient, neonatal, youth, and community services in our district.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable leader to provide strategic and operational oversight across Kidz First division. Reporting to the Clinical Director, this role holds responsibility for the delivery of safe, effective, and sustainable services that achieve excellent outcomes for our pepi, tamariki, and rangatahi, their whānau, and our wider communities.

As a senior leader, you will play a key role in shaping organisational strategy and will work in close partnership with clinical leaders, the executive team, and governance stakeholders.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Being a strong advocate for child and youth health
  • Leading the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and embedding a culture of compassion, safety, and excellence
  • Driving improved health outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples, and communities experiencing health inequities
  • Inspiring, developing, and supporting a diverse workforce through collaboration, kindness, and continuous professional growth
  • Ensuring patient safety, efficient service delivery, and effective patient flow
  • Overseeing financial performance, service sustainability, and long-term planning

About You:

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Individual with proven leadership capability and a strong track record in leading people, managing complex systems, and driving continuous improvement. A passion for child health and advocacy is highly desirable. 

You will bring experience in leading teams, resources, and services in fast-paced environments, along with the ability to critically assess processes and implement meaningful change. This role requires resilience, adaptability, and strong relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively across all levels of the organisation and contribute to the ongoing delivery of high-quality, world-class care for our patients and their whānau.
