The opportunity:
We are searching for bold, visionary, and expert clinical pharmacists to pioneer, lead and deliver an innovative First Contact Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner service right in the heart of the Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital. This is a NZ-first initiative to support the organisational achievement of shorter stays in ED for our patients and a rare opportunity to bring advanced pharmacy practice into one of the most dynamic, challenging and rewarding settings in healthcare.
Working at the top of your scope with a high degree of autonomy, First Contact Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner will collaborate closely with the interprofessional team in ED to triage, assess, and manage patients in a high-pressure environment where every decision matters. Your unique clinical expertise and leadership will help transform multidisciplinary emergency care, driving innovative service design and measurable clinical impact.
We are looking for a pharmacist who is/has:
- New Zealand Registered Pharmacist with current APC or eligibility to obtain one
- New Zealand-recognised Pharmacist Prescriber qualification essential
- At least 8 years of hospital experience in a clinical setting, including a minimum 3 years’ experience in the relevant area of expert practice and 2 to 3 years as a specialist pharmacist
- A trailblazer with advanced clinical expertise, passionate about innovation and advancing pharmacy practice
- Proven clinical leadership experience at local and regional levels in service and professional development
- Skilled in research, evaluation, and audit
- Compassionate, resilient, adaptable, and thriving in an MDT environment
- An Excellent communicator with sound problem-solving skills
- Able to work flexible hours in a fast-paced emergency care setting
