We are Te Whatu Ora-Auckland. We are part of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.

About the Role

Applications are invited for the above position available from 2 February 2026. The Fellow will work at Starship Child Health with the Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology service. The post will be for 12 months, extendable to 24 months.

Starship Children’s Hospital is the only tertiary children’s hospital in New Zealand. The Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology service provides a comprehensive clinical service including liver transplantation, endoscopy, pH/impedance and manometry studies and well as intestinal rehabilitation.

The Fellow will be expected to undertake a significant role in the management of children referred to the service. The applicant will undertake designated clinics with Consultant supervision. Endoscopy experience and training will be obtained, as well as experience in the prescribing of intravenous nutrition.

The applicant will also participate in teaching, clinical research and quality improvement projects. The applicant must demonstrate commitment to playing a role in the reduction of Māori health inequities and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This position is intended for a paediatric trainee undertaking training to become either a paediatric gastroenterologist or hepatologist. Previous completion of core paediatric training and some experience in paediatric gastroenterology is essential as this is a Fellow position where the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the on-call Consultant roster.

About you

The successful candidate must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold either part 1 of the FRACP or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
