The Opportunity

We are seeking an AATP Fellow for a two-year position (24 months fixed term). This role is fully accredited by Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES) as a Fellow in Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecological Surgery. 

This role has been created by National Women’s Health at Te Toka Tumai Auckland Hospital to provide exposure to an extensive variety of minimal access surgery in both a public and private setting.

National Women's Health (NWH) provides subspecialty services in Gynaecological Oncology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynaecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The hospital has a close association with the Auckland University Faculty of Health Sciences and has a leading role in research, undergraduate teaching and post graduate training.

About the Role

In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Actively participate in developing a gynaecological laparoscopic simulation curriculum.
  • Practice independently as a specialist supported by senior colleagues and to maintain obstetric skills with rostered birth suite sessions in the largest women’s health service in the country.
  • Develop comprehensive operative and clinical skills in Laparoscopic Surgery.
  • Obtain AGES certification in Advanced Gynaecological Laparoscopic surgery by completing the AGES AATP (AGES AATP).
  • Contribute to research and audit and be involved in evidence-based teaching of students and hospital staff including RMOs and nurses.
  • Develop skills in management of complex Endometriosis Surgery.

Fellows will work closely with sub-specialist laparoscopic surgeons with interests in endometriosis, leiomyoma, fertility and persistent pelvic pain. Participation in the multidisciplinary Women’s Health Pain Service (WHPS) enables candidates to work alongside pain specialists and gynaecologists with particular expertise in surgical and medical management of this condition. 

New fellows who have attained or are close to attaining FRANZCOG are encouraged to apply.

About you

  • Current New Zealand Medical Council registration or be eligible to obtain NZMC Registration
  • Be within 6 months of reasonable expectation of vocational registration with MCNZ in O&G (FRANZCOG)
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be a team player
  • Be motivated and willing to contribute to a busy unit
  • Intention to pursue a career in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
