External Grounds Cleaner – Full Time | Auckland City Hospital

We are seeking 1 FTE full-time Cleaner to join our Cleaning Services team, based at Auckland City Hospital.
This is a unique opportunity for someone to step into a dedicated External Grounds Cleaner position, working Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
As the External Grounds Cleaner, your focus will be maintaining the external hospital environment to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation. You’ll be working outdoors across all seasons, playing an important role in creating a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine outdoor cleaning duties including sweeping, water blasting, leaf blowing, and bin area upkeep
- Completing scheduled tasks across daily, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles
- Minor maintenance and safety checks on outdoor cleaning equipment
- Supporting internal cleaning teams during adverse weather or staffing shortages
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be comfortable working outdoors in all reasonable weather conditions
- Demonstrate strong task management and timekeeping
- Be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks such as lifting, pushing trolleys, and walking large distances
- Have experience with, or willingness to learn, outdoor cleaning equipment (e.g., blowers, water blasters)
- Possess basic mechanical aptitude for routine maintenance of machinery
- Understand and apply hygiene and infection control principles, even in external settings
- Be adaptable and able to assist with internal cleaning duties when required
Previous experience in commercial or outdoor cleaning is an advantage, but full training will be provided.
