About the Role
We are seeking an Emergency Medicine (ED) House Officer to join our Emergency Department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
Our department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) as a Tier 2 (non-major referral) training site. This offers excellent learning opportunities, allowing you to develop valuable, assessable skills and gain broad experience in emergency medicine—providing a strong foundation whether you plan to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine or another specialty.
In this role, you will work in a busy, high-acuity environment, contributing to patient assessment and management while developing your clinical decision-making skills within a supportive and well-supervised team.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The successful candidate would join a team of 16 Emergency Medicine Physicians, 1 Medical Officer, 15 Registrars, 8 House Officers and 4 Nurse Practitioners.
Our Emergency Department handles over 50,000 presentations per year, with a 30% admission rate. The general patient acuity is high, with a significant volume of major trauma cases. We operate four observation unit beds, providing care for a wide range of conditions.

Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is the principal acute hospital and specialist service provider, supported by smaller satellite facilities in Central Hawke’s Bay, Napier, and Wairoa.
Located in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay Hospital is a 400 bed secondary level public hospital delivering both acute and elective care across a broad range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology. We are supported by a strong regional ICU and flight team with tertiary support for cardiac intervention, cardiothoracic surgery, plastics and neurosurgery from Wellington, ensuring comprehensive care.

About you
- You’re a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) PGY3 or above
- You are registered or eligible for general registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
