About the Role
We currently have a vacancy for a registered nurse to join our District Nursing Service. The position covers both rural and urban bases within the Hamilton & Rural Family Health team.
We require flexibility from staff to work across both the rural and urban settings as part of the District Nurse position.
This is a 7 day a week service with hours between 8am - 5pm, and the successful applicant will be required to work rostered duties, including weekends and some on-call.

About the Service
District nurses provide a wide range of services in their local communities, often visiting people in their home. We work closely with allied health staff such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Our district nurse teams work from 16 bases across the Waikato District.
District nurses provide a comprehensive range of quality, patient-focused, professional and holistic nursing services to patients’ through-out the life-span in the community setting. This requires a person who is adaptable, dynamic and able to work autonomously. The district nurse role includes; advanced assessment, management, support and education for wound management, compression therapy, IV management, palliative/end of life care in the rural setting, continence assessment, catheter management, ostomy management, assessment for acute personal care and home help, support with home oxygen / respiratory patients, rheumatic fever secondary prevention prophylaxis and liaison/referrals with other health professionals.

About you
Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:
- Current New Zealand registered nurse practicing certificate
- A full current NZ driver’s licence with no restrictions
- A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse
- The ability to work effectively within a team
- Sensitivity to cultural aspects and the ability to apply the Treaty of Waitangi principles to practice
- Excellent assessment skills and time management
- The ability to work autonomously
It would be an advantage to have previous district nursing experience and/or an advanced knowledge in wound management.
An orientation program will be provided, and the start date can be negotiated
