About the Role
As a Consumer Taangata Whaiora Advisor, you will use your lived experience of mental health and/or addiction recovery to empower others and reshape the mental health system from the ground up.
Consumer Advisors use peer values and recovery principles to advise organisations on how to operate. They work to ensure that the experiences of people with mental health challenges and/or addiction influence every part of the organisation to improve service provision, actioning the Code of Expectation legislation in Services.
This role is focused on the following three key areas:
- Strategic viewpoint 2. Participation and leadership 3. Service improvement
- Gathering and supporting the voices of consumers, taangata whaiora in Counties MHA services.
- Ensuring equity, especially for Maaori, Pacific, disabled, youth, and rainbow communities
- Supporting co-design, project work, hui, and fono that shape the future of care
- Embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and honouring Maaori-led wellbeing initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- NZQA Level 4 qualification in mental health, addictions, social sciences or related fields
- Personal lived experience of mental health and/or addiction and recovery.
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity principles, mental health and addiction system and Maaori and Pacific worldviews.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to speak Te Reo Maaori, Pacific Island language and or another language
- A full clean NZ drivers licence
