About the Role

We are looking for a Consultation Liaison Mental Health and Addictions Clinician to join Te Ara Maioha (Mental Health & Addictions).

This role works across Gisborne Hospital and the Emergency Department, providing specialist mental health and addiction assessments, consultation, and clinical support. You will work closely with hospital teams, community services, whānau, and key stakeholders to ensure people receive timely, coordinated, and high-quality care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing specialist mental health and addiction assessment and intervention.
  • Supporting hospital clinicians with expert advice and consultation.
  • Improving care pathways and access to services for people with mental health and addiction needs.
  • Working collaboratively with whānau, community providers, Police, and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice.
  • Contributing to reducing health inequities and improving outcomes for Māori.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Te Ara Maioha (Mental Health & Addictions) provides a range of specialist mental health and addiction services across Tairāwhiti. This role is part of our Acute Services team and works closely with hospital and community-based services to support the wellbeing of our population.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised Mental Health and Addictions clinical qualification or Registered Nurse
  • Current New Zealand professional registration and practising certificate.
  • Significant experience working in mental health and addictions.
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice standards.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practice.
  • Strong organisational and computer skills.
