Consultant Microbiologist

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Medical Officer to join our team as Consultant Microbiologist. Based in the Waikato region, our Pathology Service operates across five laboratory sites, providing a broad spectrum of diagnostic testing and specialist referrals for the wider region.
You’ll be part of a team delivering comprehensive microbiology services, including:
- Bacteriology and Mycology
- Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing
- Mycobacterial Culture and Drug Susceptibility Testing
- Infectious Disease Serology
- Molecular Diagnostics for Viral and Bacterial Pathogens
About the Team/Service/ Location
This position is based at Waikato Hospital and offers part time hours with flexibility, including the option for a mix of onsite and remote work. Some out of hours on call duties are required.
We pride ourselves on delivering both high-volume and specialist testing, supported by close collaboration between our microbiology and infectious disease departments. Weekly laboratory and clinical meetings foster a strong interdisciplinary approach to patient care and scientific excellence.
