About the Role
Take a lead role in specialist addiction psychology within the Bay of Plenty Addictions Service. Based in Tauranga and working across the region, this position delivers recovery focused psychological therapy for adults affected by moderate to severe substance abuse.
Clinical work centres on face to face, one to one therapy, with some scope for remoted sessions across our wider catchment. Presentations include trauma, co-existing mental health challenges, and neurodiversity. The role includes participation in assessments and treatment processes under the Substance Addiction Compulsory Assessment and Treatment Act 2017. You will contribute to the specialist SACAT team and either hold, or work towards, Approved Specialist and Responsible Clinician status under the Act.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Bay of Plenty Addiction Service is the adult secondary specialist service for addictions across the region. The team works closely with NGO providers, adult community mental health teams, and primary care to deliver coordinated, outcome focused treatment. Based within the wider Adult Community Mental Health and Addictions service, the team offers regular peer supervision, strong clinical leadership, and a culture of accountability and professional growth. Tauranga provides the pace and challenge of a regional centre, balanced with an outdoor coastal lifestyle.

About You
You are a registered Clinical Psychologist with strong assessment and formulation skills, confident working with complex addiction presentations. You practice within a recovery framework, value multidisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to service development. You are comfortable working autonomously, uphold high professional standards, and demonstrate commitment to equity and culturally responsive practice.
What you will bring:
- Current registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the NZ Psychologists Board
- Current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology
- Demonstrated experience in addictions, trauma, or complex mental health presentations
- Eligibility for, or willingness to work towards, Approved Specialist or Responsible Clinician status under SACAT
- Strong facilitative, communication, and therapeutic engagement skills
