About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Medical Outreach, you will be working in an advanced nursing practice role, delivering specialist care and coordinating services for a defined group of patients/tūroro/tangata whai ora across various healthcare settings.

Drawing on your expert clinical knowledge, you will provide patient-centred care across the continuum — supporting improved health outcomes, promoting equity, and ensuring high-quality care for patients and their whānau. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to offer expert advice, coordinate care, and provide resources and support for healthcare professionals working with high-priority and complex cases involving specific conditions.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our team currently consists of three Clinical Nurse Specialists based at Whangarei Hospital. The Clinical Nurse Specialist role is an advanced nursing practice role with a primary focus on respiratory and home oxygen clients across Te Tai Tokerau; working within a respiratory multi-disciplinary team providing specialist outreach case management, assessment, education and advice for clients with chronic and complex long term respiratory conditions to maintain optimal health and wellbeing, in liaison with Primary and Secondary Services.

About you

  • New Zealand Registered Nurse with current practicing certificate
  • A current Expert Registered Nurse Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) Portfolio
  • Relevant Post Graduate Diploma in specialty area
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience post registration in speciality area
  • Knowledge of quality improvement processes and principles
  • Full New Zealand driving licence
  • Master’s degree or working towards is desired
  • Designated RN prescribing or working towards is desired
