About the Role

The nursing clinical leadership role will focus on Waiora, Taha Tina - physical health and wellbeing of taangata whaiora and coexisting mental health and addiction needs. The CNS will also work with the Nurse Director to develop and implement adult acute mental health nursing practice standards that align with Waiora. Successful applicants would join and participate in Clinical Nursing Leadership forums and Service Clinical Leadership forums.

Building relationships and sustaining relationships with Clinical Nurse Specialists working in other acute adult mental health inpatients across Te Manawa Taki and nationally will be expected and supported. As a CNS, you will be expected to support nurses to develop culturally responsive practices and embed Waiora which includes the following principle and values:

About you

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you will:

  • Have clinical expertise in mental health, addiction and common physical health conditions.
  • Have demonstrated your ability to draw on clinical and scientific knowledge and use cultural and relational practice to support your critical thinking and nursing judgement in assessing health needs, providing care, and advising and supporting tangata whaiora to manage their health and wellbeing. Your practice will be whaanau inclusive.
  • Hold a current New Zealand nursing registration and practising certificate with scope to work in mental health.
  • Have a passion for making a difference to the lives of our taangata whaiora and whanau.
  • Be able to complete the Safe Practice Effective Communication (SPEC) course.
