Health New Zealand – Waitematā is seeking a part time (0.70 FTE) Microbiologist to join our friendly, collaborative, and forward‑thinking Laboratory team. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of Microbiology services across a diverse and rapidly expanding population of more than 640,000.
We are looking for a passionate, engaged Microbiologist who enjoys variety, teamwork, and progressive service development. In this role, you will provide clinical and scientific leadership across North Shore Hospital and Waitakere Hospital, including clinical governance.
The role is based within Waitematā District Laboratories; and with the continued development of the Northern Region Pathology Network (Te Toka Tumai – Auckland, Counties Manukau, and Te Tai Tokerau – Northland), there is an expectation that this position will contribute to a regional working model supporting Microbiology service provision across the wider Northern Region.
You will work closely with our scientific, technical, and clinical teams to ensure high‑quality diagnostic services, and you will contribute to continuous improvement, accreditation readiness, and innovation.
You must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration in Microbiology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
