Lead, mentor and support the registrars and house officers of Starship Child Health as our Chief Resident for 2026

· Leadership position – fixed-term for one year

Starship Child Health is the leading provider of paediatric health care in Aotearoa and the South Pacific, delivering whānau-centred care to infants, children, young people and their whānau in hospital and in the community. Our tertiary children’s hospital provides general, subspecialty and acute medical care. All services value a supportive consultant-led environment with many having additional fellow and nurse practitioner or nurse specialist support.

As the Chief Resident, you will manage and organise teaching programmes for ward house officers and medical registrars. You will ensure quality and safety improvement and manage operational and performance-related issues. You will take ownership of tasks related to recruitment, rosters, and leave. You will be a key contributor to a variety of initiatives, with the opportunity to improve patient experience and outcomes.

The Chief resident contributes to actualising equity through Te Tiriti o Waitangi and fosters working environments to promote Pae Ora for Māori whānau. The Chief Resident will engage with the Tama Ariki Ora, Māori Health team at Starship to provide education on equity and Te Tiriti in Action.

The Chief Resident’s clinical commitments are designed to meet training requirements and cover both inpatient and outpatient services, there is also the opportunity to conduct your own child health related clinical research. This exciting position enables clinicians to gain invaluable experience across a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical areas, providing a premium training opportunity for working as a consultant paediatrician. This is a 12 month fixed term opportunity with guaranteed return to the Auckland advanced training scheme if this is required. The role will commence early 2026 and interviews will take place in July this year.
