We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Registered Nurse to join our Relief Team in a casual Duty Nurse Manager role. This position provides a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role across our hospital during evenings, weekends, and public holidays, ensuring smooth operations and safe, effective care.
As a Duty Nurse Manager (DNM), you will provide senior clinical oversight and operational support across hospital departments after hours. Working as part of the wider Relief Team, you'll help coordinate staffing, respond to clinical or operational issues, and act as the primary point of contact for escalation and decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing after-hours leadership and clinical coordination across inpatient areas
- Supporting and guiding clinical staff, managing staffing allocations, and responding to emergent needs
- Managing hospital-wide operational flow, including admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Acting as the senior on-site contact for incident management and escalation
- Promoting a positive, safe, and supportive working environment for staff and patients

The Relief Team is a valued and essential part of our hospital workforce, ensuring the continuity of high-quality care across services. As a Casual Duty Nurse Manager, you will be supported by a dedicated leadership team and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the organisation. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining safe staffing, clinical oversight, and responsive care delivery after hours.

About you
- Registered Nurse with current registration and Annual Practising Certificate (New Zealand Nursing Council)
- Extensive acute clinical experience and prior leadership or charge nurse experience is preferred
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a calm and professional presence under pressure
- Confident working autonomously and making operational decisions
- A commitment to culturally safe care and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Flexibility to work across a 24/7 roster on a casual, as-needed basis
