About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Casual Caseload Midwife to join our small, supportive maternity team at Wairoa Hospital. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work across the full scope of midwifery practice in a rural setting. You’ll be providing continuity of care to hapū māmā and their whānau, supporting births, postnatal care, and community visits.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a close-knit community, while enjoying the autonomy and variety that rural midwifery offers.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Wairoa Hospital is a rural facility located in the heart of the Hawke’s Bay region. Our maternity service is midwifery-led, with strong support from general practitioners and secondary services in Hastings. The team is collaborative, culturally responsive, and deeply connected to the community.

About you

You will be a New Zealand registered midwife with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) and a passion for providing holistic, culturally safe care. You’ll be confident working autonomously, adaptable to rural practice, and committed to building strong relationships with whānau and the wider health team.

We welcome applications from new graduates and experienced midwives alike, especially those with a strong connection to or interest in rural and Māori health.

Key attributes and requirements:

- Current registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand

- Valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC)

- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Commitment to culturally responsive care and working in partnership with whānau

- Flexibility to work across a range of settings including hospital and community

- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development

- Passion for rural midwifery and improving outcomes for Māori and rural communities
