About Us

The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. 

We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Māori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.

About the role

The Forensic Intellectual Disability Secure Service which is part of Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services is looking to appoint a Care Manager to work alongside our current experienced care manager. This is a statutory role mandated under the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act 2003. The person we are looking for needs to:

  • Ideally have completed a Care Manager training programme or worked in this role.
  • Preferably have at least five years clinical experience working in the Intellectual Disability sector or equivalent 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal concepts central to secure services for people with Intellectual Disability under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003.
  • Understand the requirements in preparing Care and Rehabilitation plans and advanced competencies in documentation and in public presentation of information.
  • Understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and implications for practice.
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working responsibly to achieve service objectives.
  • Have good written communication and group presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate competency and confidence to lead group discussion.
  • Want to be a team player and demonstrate a high level. of communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons with an intellectual disability.
