About the Role
Applications are invited for a 1 – 2 year fellowship in electrophysiology commencing February 2027 at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand. This post offers a unique opportunity for training in all aspects of cardiac electrophysiology, including EP studies, ablation (RF, PFA and Cryo), 3D mapping (CARTO) the full range of device implants (including LBBAP), outpatient clinics and ward management. The successful candidate will work with our highly experienced EP team in one of the leading centres in NZ. One-year applications will be considered.

About the Team/Service
Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral centre providing specialised and emergency healthcare for the Waikato and Te Manawi Taki or Midlands area, with a catchment population of over 1,000,000 people. The cardiology department has state-of the-art facilities, has an active research unit
We are based in Hamilton, the third largest city in the North Island. It is 1½ hours from Auckland via a new expressway, and offers a great lifestyle. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital. It is within easy reach of both west coast surfing and east coast leisure beaches. Ski-fields and hot pools are a few hours away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities, providing plenty of options for recreation.
About you
Waikato Hospital performs over 300 EP studies and 600 device implants each year. There is a dedicated EP lab and 3 other pacing-capable labs (shared with PCI). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing research program in the department. An opportunity exists to complete a postgraduate degree with the University of Auckland (MD or PhD) through the Waikato Clinical School.
The post is ideal for a high calibre trainee with experience in cardiac EP who now wishes to develop specific skills in electrophysiology intervention. The successful candidate will also be expected to take part in outpatient clinics, pre-procedural work up, ward referrals, and teaching of junior staff and participate in the on-call cardiology roster.
Candidates will have completed their advanced training in Cardiology (FRACP or equivalent), and their CV will demonstrate interest focused on cardiac electrophysiology. The candidate will require full or temporary registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for the duration of fellowship.
