Business Manager – Hospital & Specialist Services- Taranaki | Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora

We are seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Business Manager to play a pivotal role in supporting Hospital and Specialist Services (H&SS). This role is for someone who thrives at the intersection of clinical operations, business systems, and organisational performance.

As the Business Manager, you will ensure our clinical services are supported by robust business processes and high‑quality operational systems. You will provide trusted business advice to senior leaders and oversee a diverse portfolio including contracts, procurement interfaces, hostel operations, transport services, and capital expenditure processes.

This role is central to driving performance insights, strengthening systems and processes, and supporting business case development and investment planning. You will lead continuous improvement initiatives across H&SS, ensuring services are efficient, sustainable, and aligned with Health NZ priorities.

Success in this role relies on your ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with clinical and operational leaders. You will act as a key liaison across finance, planning, and service delivery teams, ensuring that operational decisions are well‑informed and grounded in sound business practice.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Provide high‑quality business and operational advice to clinical and service leaders
  • Lead and enhance business systems, processes, and reporting
  • Drive performance insights and support investment planning
  • Oversee key operational portfolios including contracts, procurement interfaces, transport, and hostel services
  • Lead capital expenditure processes and support business case development
  • Build strong relationships and act as a central connector across H&SS
  • Champion continuous improvement and operational excellence

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong business management or operational leadership experience
  • Proven ability to work effectively in complex, multidisciplinary environments
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and communication skills
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to influence across teams
  • Experience in health, public sector, or similarly complex service environments (advantageous)
