About the Role:
Our team seeks to attract talented and motivated Registrars to join our friendly and inspiring multi-cultural team for the 2027/2028 year.
Waikato Hospital is the only Level 1 Trauma Centre in New Zealand with a 76 bed Emergency Department, so there is plenty of opportunity to develop your skills to manage acute presentations of complex medical conditions in both adults and children, expand your trauma experience, including procedures such as airway management, chest drain placement and master USS techniques in eFAST, AAA scans and more!.
We are an ACEM (Australasian College of Emergency Medicine) accredited department providing training in Emergency Medicine. Our team of DEMTs (Director of Emergency Medicine Training) are dedicated to help and support you to get into training, offer structured teaching for Part I and Part 2 exams, along with the ability to fulfil all ACEM TS4 training requirements.

About the Team:
Our SMOs have expertise in Adult, Paediatric and Geriatric Emergency Medicine, Point of Care Ultrasound, Medical Education, Toxicology, Infectious diseases, Trauma, Pre-hospital Care , Research and Surfing Medicine!
We have weekly dedicated paid teaching sessions for all RMOs, including but not limited to regular M&M meetings, Skills/SIMS sessions, Radiology teaching, and lots more.
There is additional weekly teaching for all ED trainees, SHOs and medical students.

Based in Hamilton, you’ll work in a large regional teaching hospital (700+ beds, 20+ theatres) with strong links to the University of Auckland and University of Waikato, offering excellent clinical exposure and training.
Hamilton sits along the Waikato River, with easy access to some of the North Island’s best outdoor experiences. Enjoy riverside cycling and walking trails, the Hamilton Gardens, and nearby bush walks and hiking tracks. Sport is a big part of life, from local participation to top-level competition.
