About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Pharmacist, who will join our dynamic team as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist.
This position will work closely both with the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) team and also within the pharmacy team, advocating for and implementing activities that aim to improve the prescribing and quality use of antimicrobials at HNZ-Taranaki.
The role includes:
· Taking a leading role in the AMS program in Taranaki.
· Advocating for and implementing activities that aim to improve the prescribing and quality use of antimicrobials.
· Ensuring appropriate training/education material is available to all healthcare professionals involved in the use of antimicrobials, so that practice is current, rational and cost effective.
· Ensuring consistent, high-quality processes and ongoing improvements in the AMS realm at HNZ-Taranaki with an emphasis on quality improvement.
· Medicine information.
· In-service training/education.
· Medicine and AMS related guideline/protocol development and reviews.
· Medicine supply related activities including (i.e. non-sterile manufacturing).
· This position involves rostered on-call pharmacist duties.

About the Team/Service
Health New Zealand – Taranaki’s Pharmacy Service is a collaborative and supportive department who provide safe and effective medication management across both Taranaki Base and Hawera hospitals. We uphold the highest standards in pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety, and clinical services, whilst constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care we deliver. Our staff work collaboratively in many multi-disciplinary teams across medical, nursing and allied health directorates with a shared focused on ensuring optimal patient-centred care.
Health New Zealand – Taranaki is also fortunate to have its dedicated eMedication management team who work closely alongside our Pharmacy department to lead medication management in the various data and digital platforms across the hospital.
About you
We are looking for a Pharmacist who has the ability to work and contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team, has excellent time management skills, is able to communicate effectively with organisational members across all levels, and holds high standards of ethical and professional practice. You will be able to identify improvement opportunities and lead the development of Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) activities by undertaking projects and contributing to multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient‑centred care.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a current annual practising certificate from the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand, under the provisions of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (if you are applying from outside New Zealand, please tell us the registration route that applies, and what stage of that process you are currently at).
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience (at least 3 years).
- A commitment to continual professional development and the ability to keep abreast of current knowledge and accepted practices.
- A post-graduate qualification in a relevant clinical area is highly desirable.
