About the Role
As an Alcohol & Drug Clinician, you will provide high ‑ quality, client ‑ centred assessment, treatment and support to adults experiencing addiction and co ‑ existing mental health concerns. Working within the Community Mental Health & Addictions team, you will deliver evidence ‑ based interventions, facilitate groups and individual therapy, and partner with tangata whaiora and whānau to support their recovery journey.
You’ll complete comprehensive bio ‑ psycho ‑ social ‑ spiritual assessments, identify coexisting health needs, develop intervention plans, and collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team - including delivering opioid substitution treatment within the MDT framework. You will also support safe transitions, coordinate recovery planning, and contribute to service development and quality improvement activities.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about addiction recovery, trauma ‑ informed practice, and providing care that is culturally responsive, accessible and empowering.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Based at the Napier Health Centre, the Community Mental Health & Addictions - North team is a supportive, multidisciplinary group including clinicians, cultural advisors, medical staff and community partners. Collaboration, whanaungatanga and a strengths ‑ based approach underpin the way we work.

About you
You are a skilled clinician with experience in mental health and addiction practice, committed to supporting people toward improved wellbeing. You will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in addiction studies, social work, occupational therapy, nursing, or related field.
- Registration under HPCAA or Social Work registration and/or DAPAANZ registration.
- A current Annual Practising Certificate (as relevant).
- Previous experience in addiction and mental health settings.
- Strong assessment skills and experience with a range of therapeutic interventions (e.g., motivational interviewing, CBT/DBT approaches, psycho‑social interventions).
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and engagement skills.
- Competence in culturally safe practice and a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Proficiency with computer systems and a full NZ driver licence.
Desired:
- Experience in co ‑ existing disorders work.
- Resilience and adaptability in fast ‑ paced environments.
- Knowledge of physical health monitoring.
- Advanced IT skill capability.
