About the Role

Senior nursing leadership role within New Zealand's largest regional cancer service. As the Acutes Nurse Specialist Oncology, you will drive clinical excellence by providing expert clinical guidance to clinical teams, patients and whānau during acute phases of their cancer journey. This role is central to the coordination of care across our Inpatient Wards and the Acute Oncology Day Stay (AODS) unit, ensuring seamless transitions and high-quality outcomes. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership: Provide advanced nursing expertise and clinical leadership to nursing teams within AODS and inpatient settings.
  • Collaborative Care: Work collaboratively as a member of our multidisciplinary teams, partnering with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Haematology specialists to deliver integrated, patient-centred care.
  • Acuity Management: Act as a clinical resource for staff managing oncological and haematological acute care.
  • Strategic Support: Contribute to the senior nursing leadership team to enhance service delivery, support patient flow, and ensure excellent clinical care flourishes across our inpatient services.

  • Medical Oncology: Inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Radiation Oncology: Inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Haematology: Inpatient and outpatient services
  • Research

About You

To be considered for this role, we are looking for the following:

  •  A commitment to biculturalism
  •  A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
  • Minimum Level 3 preferably Level 4 practice chemotherapy certified RN with a strong oncology nursing background
  • Expert clinical knowledge and leadership skills
  • Post graduate qualifications, preferably to master’s level with agreement to focus on NP or prescribing pathways
  • Innovative mindset and able to network with different stakeholders
  • An ability to work effectively and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams 
  • Competence in the use of IT systems, e.g. Microsoft Excel and various local databases.
