About us

Counties Manukau is home to Middlemore Hospital, one of New Zealand’s largest hospitals, providing a wide range of specialist and acute healthcare services to a diverse community.

Our Renal Service provides care and support to patients requiring haemodialysis, including patients receiving treatment in their own homes. The Home Haemodialysis team supports patients to safely manage their treatment and equipment in the community.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Water Quality Assistant, Home Haemodialysis to join our Renal Service.

This is a varied role combining water quality testing, equipment maintenance and stock management. You will play an important role in supporting the safety and quality of home haemodialysis services for our patients.

You will be responsible for carrying out scheduled water quality and equipment checks, including collecting and transporting samples, undertaking disinfection procedures, changing filters and maintaining accurate records of testing and results.

You will also provide support with stock management, including regular stocktakes, ordering and restocking supplies, liaising with suppliers, and managing stock across the central storeroom and community houses.

The role involves working closely with Home Therapy Nurses, Home Therapy Technicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will also communicate with patients, whānau, laboratory services and dialysis equipment suppliers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with technical aptitude, strong organisational skills and a genuine interest in supporting patient care. You will need to be comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and following established safety and quality procedures.

Essential

• NCEA Level 2 or equivalent qualification, or relevant life experience
• At least one year’s experience in a service-based role
• Experience handling and managing technical equipment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good organisational, planning and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to work respectfully and effectively in a multicultural environment
• A current full New Zealand Driver Licence
• Commitment to patient safety, quality and confidentiality

Desirable

• Experience working within a health service or clinical environment
• Basic knowledge or understanding of microbiology
• Experience with stock management, inventory control or stores
• Experience working with clinical or technical equipment
