The Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join us in the development of nurses, nursing practice and the wider workforce. The successful candidate will be based within the Mental Health & Addictions, ARHOP & SCHS team under People and Professional Development here at Health NZ Counties Manukau.
The area of focus for this role is strongly aligned to our Mental Health & Addictions services and the successful candidate will be providing nursing education and professional development support. They will also be coordinating the training programme of “Safe Practice & Effective Communication” (SPEC) specifically for staff working in Mental Health. This unique role offers opportunity for a registered nurse to work alongside the team to further embed Restraint Minimisation for MH Services. Our nurses are committed to examining and improving the quality of care delivered and thus we are looking for an individual who has a special interest and/or expertise in this area.
You will work within a team who have primary responsibility to provide expertise and support in facilitating assessment, planning and delivery of professional development activities for staff within and across service clusters and the wider health community, including connecting with the community localities in collaboration with colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support professional development of nurses through training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Undertake learning needs analysis and deliver tailored education programmes.
- Provide leadership in developing service goals, policies, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the SPEC Training Programme.
- Ensure compliance with national guidelines for restraint minimisation and promote trauma-informed, person-centred care.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including tertiary providers and national working groups.
- Act as a credible clinical expert, role modelling evidence-based and culturally safe practice.
About You:
- NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
- 4+ years recent clinical experience in Mental Health nursing in NZ.
- Demonstrated expertise in setting standards and managing excellence in practice.
- Relevant Postgraduate qualification completed or enrolled and working towards one, preferably with a focus on education or Mental Health.
- Functioning at a proficient or expert level of practice on the PDRP.
- Prior attendance at SPEC training (within the last year)
