We continue to work with others to achieve equity in key health indicators for Maaori, Pacific and communities with health disparities and will continue to develop and implement plans, based on local needs to improve the health and wellbeing of Counties Manukau region. Our main sites are Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Hospital and Manukau Health Park.

We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealand’s national health service. HNZ leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels. We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community. We welcome applications from our diverse Maaori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Midwife to provide antenatal/intrapartum and postnatal care for women in our community. This role requires a midwife who is passionate about supporting women in their maternity journey. Our district is the primary caregiver for around 30% of births, so midwives employed in the unit have the opportunity to provide the full scope of midwifery care to women using this service. This 15 bedded BFHI accredited unit also receives another 1600 women for postnatal care from other hospitals and has around 400 births per year.

This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality, culturally safe maternity care. As an autonomous practitioner, you’ll work in partnership with women and their families during their hospital journey—from antenatal to postnatal care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based, woman-focused care in accordance with New Zealand Midwifery Standards of Practice.
  • Collaborate with Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), obstetricians, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Promote informed choice, cultural respect, and holistic care planning.
  • Participate in quality improvement, audits, and policy development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide emergency midwifery support and facilitate transfers where necessary.
  • Educate women and support their families through the childbirth continuum.

About You:

  • NZ Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
  • 1-2 years recent clinical experience, post registration
  • Experience in working in a multi disciplinary team (desirable)

Why Join Us?

  • Paid APC Registration
  • Further education/learning opportunities – we’ll pay for you to go through your learning modules
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative environment within Health NZ Counties Manukau
  • Be part of an organisation committed to health equity and quality improvement.
