The Opportunity

Counties Manukau – Middlemore Hospital, Auckland has an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced Speech Language Therapist to provide clinical and professional leadership to speech language therapy services offered across the district as the Professional Leader for Speech Language Therapy.

This part-time role (0.4 FTE) may be combined with an existing clinical position if desired.

About the Role

As the Professional Leader – Speech Language Therapy, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership to Speech Language Therapists across the organisation, ensuring services are safe, effective, equitable, and underpinned by best practice.

You will provide leadership and direction to the SLT workforce, working in partnership with practitioners and key staff across divisions and community services who provide inpatient, outpatient and specialised services. Areas of responsibility include providing clinical governance, setting quality and professional standards and supporting capability building within the team. You will also work with operational managers to ensure services are appropriately prioritised.

Reporting to the Chief of Allied Health Scientific and Technical, this role works in close collaboration with Service Managers, Operations Managers, and Professional Leaders from other Allied Health professions, as well as Service Leadership Teams, to support operational delivery, strategic activity, business planning, and projects.

What You’ll Bring

  • NZ Registered Speech Language Therapist, with a current APC
  • Relevant post-graduate clinical qualification
  • Minimum 5-7 years of clinical experience, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and change management experience
  • A commitment to quality improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
