Nurse Specialist – Immunology, Starship Child Health

About the role

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our friendly team as a Nurse Specialist in a 4 days a week, fixed term (12 months) capacity to cover parental leave.

This role is an advanced practice specialty role. The Nurse Specialist is an expert in assessments, diagnostic reasoning and have specialist knowledge of complex conditions which is central to the role. This is a nurse‑led role running outpatient clinics and day case services, providing high‑quality, evidence‑based care to mokopuna and rangatahi with immunological and allergic conditions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in assessment, education, treatment delivery, and care coordination, supporting mokopuna and whānau across the outpatient and day case pathway. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior nurse who enjoys autonomy, advanced clinical practice, and building strong therapeutic relationships with mokopuna and whānau.

About the Service

Starship Immunology is a multidisciplinary team which provides care to infants, children and young people, and their family / whānau in inpatient care and outpatient setting across the region and North Island. The service focuses on providing education, support and case management to children with primary immune deficiency and children with complex allergies requiring specialist treatment including, desensitisation.

About you

To be successful you will:

  • Be an experienced Paediatric registered nurse
  • Have registration with NZ Nursing Council with current APC
  • Have proficient or expert level Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolio or equivalent
  • Preferably have a Master’s degree
  • Have experience in a leadership role with a strong commitment to quality healthcare
  • Have excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a bi-cultural environment.
  • Be able to work autonomously
