About the Role

The Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital employs a range of medical providers to work as part of the Emergency Medicine team. We are looking for a Medical Officer, Fellow, Urgent Care Doctor or GP to work in the Emergency Department with a particular focus on implementing a new Fast Track model of care within the waiting room. Suitably qualified MOSS and Fellow roles will also work in all areas of the ED: Monitored/resus, paediatrics, Adults, Senior Led Triage, Waiting room and Short Stay unit. All medical providers are supported by FACEMs 18h/day and will gain exposure to a wide range of medical and surgical presentations. There will be opportunities to contribute to education, provide supervision of RMOs and to complete ACEM TS4 requirements if required.

About the Team/Service/ Location

With approximately 130,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year the Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital is one of the busiest in Australasia. Middlemore Hospital is situated in South Auckland and serves a culturally diverse, high need population with high acuity presentations. The department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for 36 months of training as a mixed Tier 1 Emergency Department.

Middlemore Hospital ED is a Major Trauma Centre seeing approximately 300 major trauma patients (ISS >13) per year as well as acting as the quaternary centre for spinal cord, mangled limb and burns patients. The hospital is well supported by dedicated Trauma, Burns and Spinal Cord teams and has an active trauma committee that provide governance and oversite. The hospital also provides immediate care for walk in paediatric trauma patients and maintains excellent links with the local cardio thoracic and neurosurgical centres via the Northern Regional Trauma Committee.

About you

As an Emergency Medicine MOSS or Fellow, you must be registered with MCNZ and have worked to the level of a Senior Registrar

  • A Fellow in the ED will be a senior trainee in Emergency Medicine who is in the last year of training and having sat or about to sit the Fellowship exam.
  • A MOSS in the ED will have a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience and MCNZ registered

or

Vocationally registered with either the RNZCGP or RNCUC
