Medical Laboratory Technician

Permanent - Full time  - Monday – Friday

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to our team in the Histology Department at Middlemore Hospital. This is a full time, permanent role working between Monday – Friday.

 Middlemore Hospital is a 950 bed Hospital and is one of New Zealand’s busiest and diverse teaching hospitals with a large Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, National Burns Unit, Regional Plastic Surgery, Special Care Baby Unit, ICU, and paediatrics, general surgical, orthopaedic and medical wards.

 The Histology department is IANZ accredited and situated on-site at the Middlemore campus and provides a Histology and Non–Gynaecological Cytology Service. The Histology department is involved in teaching scientific/technical and medical staff.

 You will be required to work in all areas of the histology laboratory alongside a dedicated team of technicians, scientists, technical specialists, registrars and Consultant Pathologists to deliver a high-quality Histology service. The applicant must be a registered member of the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand in the Scope of Technician, preferably having experience working in Histology.

Key Requirements

  • Current registration and Annual Practising Certificate (APC) as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand
  • Previous Histology laboratory experience preferred
  • Sound understanding of ISO15189 standards and quality improvement processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude and genuine passion for the Histology discipline
  • Experience with laboratory information systems, preferably Delphic, Delphic AP, and Cerebro
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a busy team environment
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and adapt quickly
