Medical Laboratory Scientist, Histology Department

- We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team
- Our laboratory is IANZ accredited and is fitted with the latest Histology equipment and systems. We aim to adapt to and embrace future technology and IT advances in the industry, and we seek a candidate who has the same outlook.

About the Role
As a Medical laboratory scientist, you will have the opportunity to work across all areas of the Histology laboratory supporting the daily workload demands of the department including but not limited to.
- Registration and accessioning
- Grossing including biopsy transfer, non-complex and complex specimen dissection
- Embedding, Microtomy
- Routine staining and quality control
- Special stains
- Immunohistochemistry
- Non -Gynae Cytology preparation
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Histology department is situated on-site at the Middlemore campus and provides a Histology and Non–Gynaecological Cytology Service for Health NZ, Counties Manukau District. The Histology department is involved in teaching scientific / technical and medical staff.
The position is part time (0.65 FTE) and you will be required to work collaboratively across all areas of the department alongside a dedicated team of Technicians, Scientists, Technical Specialists, Section Heads, Registrars and Consultant Pathologists to deliver a high-quality Histology service.
About you
- Current registration and APC as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council.
- Experience and competency in most areas of the Histology laboratory.
- Good communication skills and a positive work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a busy team environment.
- Ability to prioritise work, adapt and learn quickly with s strong focus on health and safety.
- Good understanding of ISO15189 standards and a commitment to quality improvement principles.
- Confidence with computer-based LIS systems preferably with experience in Delphic, Delphic AP and Cerebro applications
