MRI Medical Imaging Technologist (MIT) Counties Manukau – Full-time

Health New Zealand - Counties Manukau Radiology is located in South Auckland across Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Children's Hospital and Manukau Health Park (MHP) and is at the forefront of innovative health care delivery with the New Zealand Public Health Sector. Middlemore Hospital includes the National Burns Centre and is a major trauma hospital specialising in spinal and plastics. Our busy department serves a diverse community and is rapidly growing with planned expansion, including new premises at MHP opening later in 2026.

Our Radiology department is large and diverse with state of the art medical imaging equipment that includes:

  • 3 MRI Scanners 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners (4 from mid-2026)
  • 13 General x-ray rooms, all with DR
  • Two dedicated Angiography suites
  • 1 Fluoroscopy Room
  • A specialist Radiology Theatre service
  • Five CT scanners performing acute and elective CT scans, including Cardiac CT
  • 2 Cardiac Catheter suites

About the Role

You will be required to hold a APC in the MRI scope of practice with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board.

We have a full-time permanent MRI MIT position available within our MRI service with 8-hour shifts available on weekdays. This position will be working across Middlemore and Manukau Health Park imaging emergency, ward, clinic and outpatients. You will be given orientation on protocols and department systems so that you can interpret referrals and apply your clinical decision-making skills to adapt sequences to produce high-quality diagnostic MRI images. This position will contribute to the on-call roster with the rotation being no more than 1 in 4 weeks (typically 1 in 6 weeks).

Overtime shifts (weekday and weekends) are currently available and offered to permanent staff in the first instance. This is to provide additional capacity for outpatients to meet service demand.

 About the Team/Service/ Location

Our service has 2 Siemens scanners located at Middlemore and 2 new Siemens scanners due for commissioning in August at Manukau Health Park.

Our permanent MITs working in MRI get to retain their MIT scope of practice. We are happy to support supervision requirements if you would like to return to general scope of practice. The MITs and trainees are clinically supported in the modality by 2IC’s, Modality Lead and the MIT Team Leader.

About you

If you have your MRI Scope of practice and would like to build your knowledge and experience by working in the busiest trauma hospital in Australasia with an extensive range of pathology using the latest technology, then we would love to hear from you.

An ideal candidate holds both MIT and MRI scope of practice. We need someone who is adaptable with a willingness to learn but enjoys sharing knowledge with trainees. We also encourage applications from MRI Technologists wanting to return to MIT scope of practice.
