Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role:
The Psychological Medicine Service is seeking an experienced psychologist to join its innovative and multidisciplinary team. We are particularly interested in candidates with a passion for working in cardiology.
Based primarily at Middlemore Hospital, the service provides both inpatient and outpatient care across multiple satellite sites within the Counties Manukau area. You will work alongside a diverse team that includes health psychologists, clinical psychologists, consultation-liaison psychiatrists, and clinical nurse specialists.
Health psychologists in the service play a vital role in conducting comprehensive assessments that explore individuals’ difficulties through a broad bio-psycho-social and developmental lens. This includes detailed psychological, cognitive, and behavioural interviews, as well as the use of standardised assessment tools. Clinically, you will be closely aligned with a hospital specialty service, contributing psychological expertise to multidisciplinary care.
Previous clinical experience in a healthcare setting is highly desirable. Experience working with adolescents is also advantageous, as the role may include engagement with this population group.
Interventions typically include:
- Individual therapy (commonly using CBT and/or ACT approaches)
- Group and family therapy
- Psychoeducational and therapeutic groups
- Behavioural management strategies
- Case consultation with medical teams
We are committed to the ongoing professional development of our psychologists and provide robust clinical supervision and opportunities for skill enhancement.
Essential:
- Eligible to register or registered with the NZ Psychologists Board
- Current Annual Practising Certificate with the NZ Psychologists Board
- A minimum 12 months practical experience
- Full, clean driver’s licence
