Hand Service Fellow

We are currently inviting applications for our Hand Fellowships from August 2026 to August 2027 within our department of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery.
The Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgery service at CMH provides regional plastic surgery and tertiary Hand cover for the North part of the North Island with a population over 1.5 Million. Our Hand team consist of 6 Orthopaedic Surgeons and 5 Plastic Surgery Hand Surgeons, supported by 2 fellows, 3 registrars and 2 house surgeons. In total we have 29 Consultant Plastic and Orthopaedic Surgeons in our department.
The training in hand and wrist surgery is comprehensive (except for congenital) and the unit is a busy trauma and tertiary referral centre. The service comprises of Orthopaedic and Plastic Hand Surgeons providing multi-speciality expertise. The (two) Fellows work alternate weeks of elective surgery (with the Orthopaedic Hand Team) and trauma (working with all surgeons of the department). Aggressive surgical intervention is combined with comprehensive auditing of patient outcomes to constantly upgrade the care and service. Further there is the opportunity for research, making this an exciting, enjoyable, and popular Fellowship.
The Middlemore Hand Service is part of the Australasian Post Fellowship Education Training (PFET) scheme in Hand Surgery and appropriately qualified Fellows can apply to have the Fellowship accredited for this role.
