Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Counties Manukau District is one of the largest public hospitals in New Zealand with over 9,500 individuals being employed across the region providing healthcare services to more than half a million people in South Auckland.

About the role:

We are seeking an accomplished General Manager, Adult Rehabilitation and Health of Older People, to provide strategic and operational leadership across a complex and essential service portfolio.

Reporting to the Clinical Director, this role is accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, and sustainable services, ensuring excellent outcomes for service users, their whānau, and our communities. As a key senior leader, you will contribute to the broader organisational strategy and work closely with clinical, executive team, and governance stakeholders.

Key areas of accountability include:

  • Delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and fostering a culture of compassion, safety, and excellence
  • Improving health outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples, and communities experiencing health inequities
  • Leading, engaging, and developing a diverse workforce, promoting collaboration, kindness, and professional growth
  • Ensuring patient safety, effective service delivery, and optimal patient flow
  • Financial management, performance, and long-term sustainability

Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for an experienced General Manager who can demonstrate strong leadership skills, the ability to lead teams, manage systems, and critically evaluate and improve processes. While experience in healthcare is advantageous, we are open to candidates from any large and complex industry. A background in leading people, operations, and resources, in a dynamic environment will be essential.

In this role, you will need the ability to navigate a challenging yet rewarding work environment, building relationships across all levels of the organisation to support positive change and the continued delivery of world-class care to our patients and their whanau.
