About the Role
You will work under supervision on the Specialist roster and have responsibility for some quality improvement initiatives. We will offer non-clinical time, and mentoring as appropriate, to help you develop portfolio interests and skills that will benefit your future career development. These could include Education, Research and Human Factors/ Safety and Quality. We will support you to attend conferences and meetings that further these interests. The position is accredited as a Transition Year position with the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), for those candidates who meet criteria.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our admission numbers are around 1400 per year to the Complex (ICU/HDU) with 80% of these as acute admissions. We are a supra-regional spinal injury service and care for severe burns as part of the National Burn Service taking patients from throughout New Zealand. Additionally, we admit around 150 paediatric patients each year and are involved in paediatric resuscitation in the Emergency Department.
Our team of 10 specialists are committed to improving care for our patients and their whanau and to providing outstanding training for our future colleagues. We enjoy good relationships with other teams in the hospital and other Intensive Care Units in the region. We foster an environment of humility and respect for others, and excellent communication.

About you
The successful applicant will have previous experience of Intensive Care clinical practice at Registrar level and be looking to pursue a career in Intensive Care Medicine. Desirable to:
- Have passed the Australasian fellowship exam in Intensive care medicine (or be an international applicant who has trained in an equivalent training program)
- Be looking to pursue a career in Intensive Care Medicine
- Have previous paediatric experience.
- Already be registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have an Annual Practicing Certificate prior to commencement
