As part of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to delivering equitable, high-quality healthcare grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About the Role

Serving South Auckland means working with one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most culturally diverse and high-needs populations. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference where it matters most.

Middlemore Hospital’s Emergency Department is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for 36 months of specialist training as a mixed Tier 1 Emergency Department.

As a major trauma centre, the hospital manages approximately 300 major trauma patients (ISS >13) each year and serves as the quaternary centre for spinal cord injuries, mangled limbs and burns. The department is supported by dedicated Trauma, Burns and Spinal Cord teams, with an active trauma committee providing clinical governance and oversight.

The hospital also provides immediate care for paediatric trauma patients presenting directly to the Emergency Department and maintains strong links with regional cardiothoracic and neurosurgical centres through the Northern Regional Trauma Committee.

As an Emergency Medicine Physician, you will play a key leadership role in the management of critically unwell and injured patients, including leading the multidisciplinary team during major trauma events.
