About the Role:

The Psychological Medicine Service at Middlemore Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Health Psychologist to join our innovative and supportive team. We are particularly interested in applicants with a keen interest in working with individuals affected by Diabetes.

Our service provides both inpatient and outpatient care across Middlemore Hospital and multiple satellite sites within the Counties Manukau area. You will be joining a multidisciplinary department comprising health and clinical psychologists, consultation-liaison psychiatrists, and clinical nurse specialists.

As a Health Psychologist, you will conduct comprehensive assessments that take a broad bio-psycho-social and developmental approach. This includes detailed psychological, cognitive, and behavioural interviews, along with the use of standardised assessment tools. You will work closely with a hospital specialty service, contributing psychological insight to support integrated care.

Interventions typically include:

• Individual therapy (commonly using CBT and/or ACT approaches)
• Group and family therapy
• Psychoeducational and therapeutic groups
• Behavioural management strategies
• Case consultation with medical teams

We are committed to the ongoing professional development of our psychologists and provide robust clinical supervision and opportunities for skill enhancement.

Essential:

• Eligible to register or registered with the NZ Psychologists Board
• Current Annual Practising Certificate with the NZ Psychologists Board
• A minimum 12 months practical experience
• Full, clean driver’s licence
