Preceptor – Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD)
Counties Manukau Health operates three Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSD) across two sites:
- Middlemore Hospital – providing 24/7 services
- Manukau Health Park – operating Monday to Friday, 0700–2300 hours

About the Role
We are currently seeking a Preceptor to support the training and development of our CSSD Technicians. Our technicians are responsible for cleaning, inspecting, packing, and sterilising complex surgical instrument sets and implants for our surgical teams and other customers.
In this role, you will provide one-on-one training to CSSD staff, assess the effectiveness of current teaching materials, and evaluate individual staff skills and competencies. When not undertaking training duties, you will work rostered shifts as a CSSD Technician.

You are passionate about teaching and education, enjoy supporting others to develop their skills, and bring a positive, flexible, and “can-do” attitude to your work.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ secondary education
- At least 3 years’ experience working in a CSSD
- Level 4 Sterilising Technology Certificate or equivalent
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Sound computer skills and ability to adapt to new software
- Willingness to work towards further relevant qualifications, such as:
o Level 5 Diploma in Sterilising Technology
o Adult Education or Preceptor-related courses
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience using an instrument tracking computer system
- NZSSA membership and registration
