Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of patients recovering from severe burn injuries? We have an exciting fulltime role on the National Burn Centre (NBC) at Middlemore Hospital. The NBC is a 10 bed inpatient unit, with an attached outpatient clinic. The psychologist role is mainly inpatient focused, supporting patients and their families through burn treatment and rehabilitation, as well as liaising with, and educating staff. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical or Health Psychologist to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team at the National Burn Centre, New Zealand’s leading burns treatment and rehabilitation facility
Previous experience in working with people with burns, pain management, or related fields would be an advantage, but specific training opportunities will also be provided. The role would include provision of direct clinical services to patients of the service and their family/whaanau/significant others, liaison with other burns services (particularly concerning patients of this service referred to other burns services), support services for staff of the National Burns Centre, research, and service development input for this service.
As part of Counties Manukau, you will deliver high-quality psychological services to patients and their families/whaanau, helping them navigate recovery and adjustment after trauma. This is a unique opportunity to work in a highly specialised clinical environment while contributing to service development, staff support, and ongoing research.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions for patients with burn injuries.
- Support families/whaanau through psychoeducation and therapeutic engagement.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to clinical reviews and service planning.
- Deliver trauma-informed care and staff support services.
- Participate in research, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
About You
- Registered as a Clinical or Health Psychologist with the NZ Psychologists Board.
- Minimum 12 months clinical experience.
- Competent in psychological assessment, testing, and intervention.
- Skilled in working with trauma, pain management, and adjustment to injury.
- Committed to bicultural practice and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- A team player with a compassionate, professional approach.
- A full drivers licence.
