Clinical Nurse Director – Middlemore Central & Critical Care Complex (1.0 Full time position)

The Role:

We are seeking a senior nurse with experience, skill and vision to take on this dynamic leadership role. This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Chief Nurse, and working alongside the senior leadership team (SLT), General Manager and Clinical Director to drive divisional performance and clinical excellence. This role will be critical to support workforce development, nursing governance, and professional leadership, advice and guidance for practice. Flexible workforce and resource utilisation, acute flow and hospital acuity and demand management are all key functions in this division. This CND role includes nursing leadership support for our Critical Care Complex. You will be at the forefront of transforming nursing practice, supporting strategic and operational initiatives, and ensuring optimal patient and whaanau outcomes for our Counties Manukau community. 

We are seeking an organised and experienced candidate with strong relational skills who is able to work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment and is capable of driving clinical excellence and inspiring teams. You will need to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including across hospital services, regional teams and with a diverse group of our health workforce.

Your passion for equitable, patient-focused care and your broad understanding of healthcare systems will be crucial in leading and shaping the future of nursing across these clinical settings.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic nursing leadership, operational support and strong clinical direction.
  • Drive operational performance focusing on quality, safety, staffing, and patient flow.
  • Lead a high-performing senior nursing team aligned with organisational values and health target priorities.
  • Enhance professional nursing governance and contribute to divisional and organisational strategy.
  • Support the development of a culturally competent and diverse nursing workforce with a strong emphasis on Maaori and Pacific health equity.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and promote a patient-centred and whaanau approach.
  • Develop nursing research capability and foster evidence-based practice.
  • Work as a team member with the clinical nursing directors to support nursing strategy for the district
  • Represent nursing perspectives in governance, clinical, and management forums.
  • Work alongside Health NZ partners in collaborative work to advance services and opportunities for regionally delivered services.

About You:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Minimum 7+ years relevant clinical experience in NZ, preferably in community nursing
  • Proven nursing leadership/operational experience
  • Masters qualification with relevance to specialty
  • Familiarity with extended scope practitioner models.
