About the role:

Are you a strong, compassionate nursing leader with a passion for delivering high-quality mental health care? Tiaho Mai, our adult inpatient mental health unit at Middlemore Hospital, is seeking a highly motivated Charge Nurse Manager (CNM) to lead our dedicated nursing team.

Following a transformative re-build incorporating latest technology and co-designed with our whaiora and wider community, Tiaho Mai is the newest inpatient mental health unit in the country.

As the Charge Nurse Manager, you will be responsible for providing clinical, professional, and operational leadership to the nursing team within Tiaho Mai. You will work in partnership with the Service Manager, Clinical Leads, and Clinical Nurse Director to ensure excellence in patient care and team performance.

This leadership role is critical in supporting tangata whaiora and their whaanau, promoting recovery-focused, culturally responsive care, and upholding the values and vision of Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora – Counties Manukau.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management and coordination of the inpatient unit nursing team.
  • Clinical leadership to promote best practice and ensure safe, high-quality care delivery.
  • Oversight of staffing, recruitment, retention, and professional development.
  • Support and lead quality improvement, health equity, and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure services meet contractual and strategic objectives, aligned with Māori health gain and equity outcomes.
  • Foster a strong team culture grounded in tikanga Māori, equity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.

About You:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with current APC (Mental Health Scope)
  • 5+ years clinical experience in mental health care, post registration
  • Proven management and/or leadership experience
  • Current Proficient or Expert PDRP
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent in relevant clinical area
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement, risk management and resource utilisation
  • Full NZ Drivers Licence
