We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist with a demonstrated ability to apply expert clinical practice to join our Acute Allied Health service for an advanced clinician within our Adult Emergency Department. This key clinical role has a number of key relationships across various clinical, cultural, management and professional positions within the organisation. 

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist to demonstrate and develop their advanced clinical and leadership skills within the Emergency Department to ensure our Shorter Stay in ED targets are delivered. In this role you will provide expert clinical practice to an advanced level of complexity, including assessing, diagnosing and treating patients, with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, respiratory conditions, vestibular concerns or mobility assessment. You will model a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, transdisciplinary practice, and provide clinical leadership to the wider clinical support team including developing and maintaining high quality service delivery.

The main roles and responsibilities will be:

  • Acting as an advanced clinical resource providing guidance, advice and education to patients/clients, family/whaanau, students, staff and the inter-professional team within the Emergency Department.
  • Provide advanced clinical input in the development of relevant service plans, including models of care/practice across the continuum of allied health service delivery and diagnostic groups including musculoskeletal, frailty, respiratory, vestibular conditions, and concussion.
  • Work within Emergency Department multi-disciplinary team to ensure that key deliverables and targets are met.
  • Develop regional networks.
  • Role model, enhance and promote innovation and advanced practice, leading the development of the allied health professions locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Apply advanced knowledge and clinical reasoning while modelling evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain advanced clinical competencies specific to the needs of the service, the position, and the Physiotherapy profession
  • Identify and lead the implementation of opportunities to improve health outcomes for Maaori and Pasifika populations.
  • Lead the development of local and regional evidence based clinical policies, procedures and best practice within.
  • Lead, facilitate and demonstrate commitment to continuous high quality improvement activities utilising contemporary methodologies

This is a full time position of 40 hours per week, with a clinical caseload. The hours and days of work can be negotiated. You may also be required to participate in weekend working, dependent upon service requirements.

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:-

  • A recognised tertiary Allied Health qualification
  • New Zealand registration and current annual practising certificate
  • A commitment to biculturalism and to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Relevant (or working towards) post qualification clinical Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Proven clinical expertise within the area of specialty
  • Experience providing adult teaching and knowledge of principles of adult learning
  • Significant experience in practice and policy development
  • Experience leading clinical research, audit and evaluation
  • Membership of professional association and/or college
  • Experience in project management
